Non-Implant ProsthesesWhile dental implants are often the ideal solution when it comes to teeth replacements, non-implant prostheses can be just as effective. At Harmony Dental, we offer non-implant prostheses for a wide variety of reasons. During your initial consultation, we will be able to determine which restoration best suits your needs! Ceramic VeneersCeramic veneers are usually considered a cosmetic procedure, but they do have restorative value as well. A veneer is an extremely thin shell that is bonded to the front surface of a tooth to improve its appearance. Veneers are frequently used to fix anterior (front) teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored, broken, or abnormally shaped. In many cases, a veneer is considered a conservative alternative to dental crowns. During a minor procedure, we remove a very small amount of enamel to accommodate the thickness of the veneer. By preserving more of the natural tooth, we improve the strength and durability of both your tooth and the restoration. Learn more about ceramic veneers. Crowns & BridgesA crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is used to correct the function and appearance of a severely damaged tooth. In many cases, a crown may be the only way to save a tooth from extraction, especially if a root canal is needed. During a relatively minor procedure, the tooth in question is completely reshaped to accommodate the size of your crown. Once the tooth is reshaped, we will take an impression of the area. This impression will be used to fabricate your final crown. These days, most crowns are made from porcelain due to the material’s superior aesthetics and longevity. A bridge consists of two dental crowns that attach to one or more pontics (false teeth). In other words, the restoration literally “bridges” the gap created by missing teeth. The surrounding teeth are reshaped and capped with the crowns, which anchor the restoration in place. Learn more about crowns & bridges. Removable DenturesA removable denture is an easy and cost-effective way to replace one or more missing teeth. We offer both partial and complete dentures. A partial denture is often similar to a traditional retainer, with an acrylic base that attaches to a prosthesis. A partial also utilizes metal clasps that wrap around the surrounding teeth, allowing your denture to remain securely in place. Some partial dentures come with precision attachments, which are much more aesthetically pleasing. Precision attachments are similar to dental crowns and eliminate the need for metal clasps. Most complete dentures consist of prosthetic teeth set in a pink, flesh-colored acrylic base. Dentures designed for the upper arch usually cover the palate as well. Once you receive your complete denture, Dr. Yakligian will give you a detailed set of care instructions. There may be a brief adjustment period as you get used to life with your new appliance. Daily activities such as eating, speaking, and smiling may take some practice. Once your muscles adjust to your new teeth, these issues should dissipate. Learn more about complete dentures.
